You've bought an eSIM. Now you need to put it on your iPhone. There are three install paths and they all take about a minute. Here's the fastest one.
Method 1 — Scan the QR code (recommended)
When you buy from dodoesim, the QR code arrives in your email. Open the email on a different device (laptop, tablet, or your partner's phone) so your iPhone's camera can see it.
- On iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
- Tap "Use QR Code."
- Point the camera at the QR code on the other screen.
- iOS will detect the plan. Tap Continue → Add Cellular Plan.
- Choose a label (we suggest "Travel"). Pick your default line. Done.
Method 2 — Tap the install link
If you're reading the email on your iPhone itself, scanning a QR off your own screen is awkward. Skip it — the dodoesim email also has a one-tap install link.
- Open the email on your iPhone.
- Tap the "Install eSIM" button.
- iOS asks for permission to add a cellular plan. Tap Allow.
- Continue through the setup screens the same way as the QR method.
Method 3 — Manual entry
If the QR and link methods fail (rare), you can enter the activation details by hand. The email contains an SM-DP+ address and an activation code. Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Enter Details Manually.
Three settings to flip before you board
Most "my eSIM didn't work" stories come down to one of these three things. Flip them now.
1. Set Cellular Data to the new line
Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → pick the travel eSIM. Otherwise your phone keeps trying to use the home SIM and you pay roaming.
2. Turn OFF Data Roaming on the home line
Settings → Cellular → tap the home line → toggle Data Roaming off. This is the single most important setting to prevent a surprise bill.
3. Allow Cellular Data Switching (optional)
If you want iMessage to keep working on your home number while using the travel eSIM for data, leave this on. If you want strict separation, turn it off.
If it doesn't work
- "No service" after landing — toggle Airplane Mode on and off. iOS sometimes needs a nudge.
- "Plan not activated" — check that the travel eSIM is selected as your Cellular Data line (not just Default Voice Line).
- Speeds are slow — make sure 5G is enabled in Cellular → Data Mode. Some carriers default to LTE.
